Better known for his image of the flag raising over Mt. Surabachi, Joe Rosenthal actually took several images of the Iwo Jima invasion, with most being lost or never distributed. This is a rare Rosenthal original from Feb 20th showing the progress of soldiers up the beach to Mt. Surabachi. An impressive image in nice shape with a nice stamp on the back noting the photographer as "Campbell" but this is an error, it is absolutely a Rosenthal image. It is impossible to date this photograph concretely but we feel it is a 1950's example off the original negative. One of the best Rosenthal images we have ever handled.
