Intense 1945 photograph of the first wave of marines hitting the beach on Iwo Jima on Feb 22, 1945. Dug in on the outskirts of the island, a few marines have even turned to look at the camera. A few days later a flag would be raised on the island and the War would take a turn toward the Americans and ultimately the end. Crystal clear and bold, the image is in nice shape and carries both a stamp and a paper caption on the back.
