Large portrait style photograph of former big league star Charles "Chief" Bender in uniform with the United States Naval Academy where he was the head coach. An interesting twist as thirty years earlier the military was engaged in war with Native Americans and now one was employed to turn their cadets into baseball warriors! This is one of the only images of bender in uniform with the Naval Academy we have ever seen and it carries a nice date stamp on the back from the Baltimore Sun Newspaper (just outside Annapolis) making this likely a unique photo from a local photographer.
