While much of baseball history can be debated, one thing is for sure... the 1927 Yankees are the greatest team ever assembled! Babe Ruth hit a record 60 home runs, and he wasn't even the best hitter on the team that year! Their pitching came together to get the job done and their lineup put legitimate fear into the hearts of the opponents. A few different photographs were made of the team, but THIS example from New York photographer Hank Olen is possibly the best of them all picturing the World Series roster shortly after taking the American League pennant. Lou Gehrig anchors the top row (far left) with Babe Ruth third from the left on the top row looking right at you with a piercing stare. Photo is in great shape with a couple light corner creases, this is an exceptional oversized image off the original negative and re-struck around 1945-1950. While specimens of the 1927 Yankees can be found from time to time, this is BY FAR the largest example off the original negative we have ever seen and it deserves a special place in even the most advanced collection!
