Nathaniel "Sweetwater" Clifton was one of the most important athletes of the 20th century. He broke the color barrier in the NBA and was also a spectacular athlete in other sports as is evidenced here. He was a Negro Leaguer who took some hacks in minor league ball before devoting his time to the NBA. The offered photograph was taken in 1950 when Clifton was a member of the Wilkes Barre Indians and is one of the earliest images of him in ANY uniform we have ever seen. An underrated figure in sports history, this is his only image in professional baseball uniform we have ever seen.
