Despite being one of the most popular and significant figures in Baseball history, there are surprisingly few original images of Cy Young ever taken on the field during his playing days. Largely due to the evolution of the camera coming along a bit late for Young's career, there are relatively few photographs to survive showing his delivery and follow through on the mound. While this image was taken in 1908 (he is wearing his Boston Red Sox uniform) it originates from Cleveland and was used by the Press to promote his recent acquisition to the team in 1909. Image looks like the work of George Grantham Bain (similar in photo process and size) but it is uncredited. Image is clear and bold while the photo itself has two small creases (one reinforced on the back) and some artistic tracing done by the newspaper. As far as we know, this is a unique image in the hobby and as such is a wonderful offering to the baseball historian!
