Today the Indianapolis Speedway and the "Indy 500" are iconic places and events all across the world. It is hard to imagine a time when the speedway was brand new and being advertised to promote "upcoming" auto races, but this relic is a rare survivor of this moment in time. The photo is an aerial artist concept of the brand new Indianapolis Speedway with cars racing on it, but the back paper caption speaks to the importance of the release as it speaks to the newly completed track and advertises the first upcoming auto race on August 19-20-21 in 1909. An incredible piece of auto racing history, this is being offered here for the first time ever, fresh out of a prominent newspaper archive. The photo has some pinholes at the edges but it looks great otherwise.
