c. 1909 Extremely early photograph of famous early American race car driver Bob Burman as he competed in the famous Vanderbilt Cup which was the predecessor to the Indianapolis 500. Stamped on the back by photographer E.A. Waterman of Brooklyn, this is identified as Burman driving an Opel car in the race. He competed in 1909 and 1910 so it could be either of those years. Burman was a true racing pioneer who died in 1916 and is among the most highly sought after of all early auto racers in the hobby! A new discovery from an archive that is being offered here for the first time ever!
