At the end of the 1921 baseball season Babe Ruth was in a home run chase, with himself. He had hit 54 home runs in 1920 which seemed to be an insurmountable total, but he bested it in 1921. In this image, Ruth was stuck on 58 home runs and was stricken with a cold, but his wife was there to help him back to health and get back on the diamond to chase the number he was aiming for... 60. He had two more days and would indeed hit another home run, setting the record at 59. A great image when put into historical context, this is from the archives of Underwood and Underwood and offered here for the first time ever. There are some embossed "File Copy" stamps on the front and edge chipping, but the photo portion is nice overall. This is a photo that we have never seen before and the paper caption tells an awesome story!
