Sometimes the sheer existence of a particular image makes you scratch your head and wonder. Why in the world would actors Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford be with a young future President Franklin Roosevelt in 1918 at a liberty loan drive for WWI and what photographer would have thought this made for a great photo? Who knows, but we are thankful that it happened. A young FDR, standing strong before he contracted polio is the prominent figure here, but the actors he is surrounded by were much more famous than him when the cameraman took this image. Surrounded by Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and Marie Dressler, this is a 1934 example of this famous photograph that is one of the only specimens from FDR's life we have ever seen!
