c. 1935 Oversized studio profile photograph of Adolf Hitler from the genesis of his power in Nazi Germany. This is an incredible silver gelatin masterpiece (Double Weight) which bears the studio stamp of his personal photographer Heinrich Hoffman on the back. These were only produced in limited quantities and in Germany for government buildings and for the ultra wealthy. We have never seen another example in the industry that has survived as most were destroyed during bombings or burned afterwards as a show of allegiance to the new regime after Hitler died. We estimate that fewer than ten of these images have survived and we can find no other example of this image selling at auction, let alone in this oversized format. It is also incredible how this one managed to make it's way back to America as there is a handwritten note on the back from a WWII soldier that tells the tale. A Lt. Col. named George W. Branscomb took this from a German Club Room after liberation and kept it as a souvenir, using his rank to be able to mail it back to the states in pristine condition. This is a museum quality piece of history that is by far the greatest image of Hitler to ever hit the market and it is being offered here publicly for the first time ever!
