Vintage 1954 portrait style photograph of Mickey Mantle of the Yankees posing with his bat at the ballpark. One of his most famous photographs ever taken, this is the image used to make his Red Heart Dog Food baseball card. The image is crystal clear and absolutely off the original negative. Dating it is tough because of the blank back, but we are 100% confident this is a 1950's example. We showed this image to PSA and we were told that it IS off the original negative and completely vintage, but without a date stamp it would be impossible to pinpoint the date of creation to certify this as a Type 1, but that is was almost certainly a Type 1 example regardless. An interesting aspect of the image is that it was originally autographed by Mantle with an older style signature but it was covered up with editorial paint at a newspaper archive for publication. If the paint was removed and the exact style of Mantle's signature could be ascertained, it may be possibly to use the signature to pinpoint the date for PSA. We guarantee this to be off the original negative and to be a 1950's example and as such, it is one of the most important images of Mantle ever offered.
