Beautiful and artistic photograph of the first ever atomic bomb detonation near Los Alamos, New Mexico on July 16, 1945. The explosion illuminates the dark sky and a mushroom cloud rises from the spot of detonation in what can only be described as a work of art. An important moment in human history, this is one of the only images of this event we have ever handled. Issued by the United States government and with a typed caption on the back, the photo is from the archives of Underwood and Underwood and grades a perfect 10/10. This is a restrike from about the 1970's but it presents beautifully like a work of art.
