c. 1919 Extremely symbolic and sad photograph of Jewish war orphans on a boat, arriving in America with hopes of a better life after losing everything during WWI in Europe. A man and women flank sixteen children, each waving a small American flag, symbolic of their hopes for a future which did not exist in their homelands. Each has a story and legacy that survives to this day, but all have been lost to history, making this a powerful piece of social commentary. From the archives of Underwood and Underwood and offered here for the first time ever, the photo presents well with note to some wear at the corners from editorial use
