Frank "Pop" Dillon was a good major leaguer from 1899-1904, but his true love was California. He spent the 1902 and 1904 seasons on the west coast between years in the major leagues and fell in love. He shifted to Los Angeles permanently in 1905 and would be one of the biggest names in the PCL for the rest of his life, even being inducted to the PCL Hall of Fame in it's first year. The offered life-sized cabinet photograph captures his head and face in uniform better than any photograph of any baseball player from the era we have ever seen. This is from the Dillon family and this was cherished by "Pop" Dillon himself, with the handwritten notes on the back possibly in his own hand. The clarity and quality are absolutely incredible and the large size is quite an anomaly for the era, leading to the belief that this was some type of presentational piece from the photographer. There is a chip off the upper left corner and some light wear, but overall it presents beautifully! Offered here for the first time ever and an important piece of PCL history as Dillon was one of it's most famous early stars!
