Iconic image of 1965 Dodgers superstar hurler Sandy Koufax pitching his team to a victory in game 7 of the World Series. Perhaps no pitcher was more dominant over a short period of time as Koufax was for the 4-5 years before he abruptly retired in 1966. The 1965 Series began with an unusual situation as the obvious Ace of the Dodgers staff was Koufax, however the first game of the series coincided with the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur Koufax indicated he would not be the pitcher. The Dodgers went with their other powerful pitcher Don Drysdale who got shellacked early by the Minnesota Twins leading a reporter to tell Manager Walter Alston "I bet you wish Drysdale was Jewish too." One of the most famous images of the era, this one transcends sports and ranks among the top photos of the decade period!
