1920's Large vintage basketball photograph of Hall of Famer Dutch Dehnert from the Original Celtics as he was set to take the tip off in a game against what was almost certainly the New York Rens. Only a few black teams played against the Celtics in the early days of professional basketball and this player (despite having his back turned to the camera) appears to be Fats Jenkins. The photo is the earliest we have ever seen of a black professional basketball team and the only known image of the Rens against the Celtics that we know of in the industry. From the archives of Underwood and Underwood, this is stamped on the back and completely vintage to the 1920's. We are excited to bring this historically important piece of basketball history to the public for the first time ever and despite some handling wear and an embossed "File Copy" stamp, it presents beautifully!
