Before the 1911 World Series, a photographer at Underwood and Underwood was sent on assignment to capture images of members of the Philadelphia Athletics as they invaded New York to battle the Giants. We are not sure where the images were taken (possibly the team hotel or train station), but he had each member of the team put on their ballcap despite wearing formal suits, making for one of the coolest and most popular photographic essays of the era "Portraits of the Athletics." This is the only true Vintage 1 example we have ever seen from the series as most are slight restrikes from about 1920, with this example capturing star infielder Jack Barry. A silver gelatin beauty in pretty nice shape overall, this is from the archives of Underwood and Underwood and offered here for the first time ever.
