In 1910, a photographer from the Paul Thompson agency set out to take images of the best baseball players in the game. Whether under contract to do so by the American Tobacco Company for use in an upcoming baseball card set, or whether the cards were made from the images for their aesthetic beauty, we will never know. The detailed and haunting portrait photographs that Thompson took in 1910, whether used for the T205 baseball cards or not, are some of the most breathtaking and detailed ever to be snapped from the stars of baseball and are coveted by collectors today. The offered Thompson image of young Hall of Famer Harry Hooper offered here is the only example we have handled and it presents like few baseball images we have ever seen. Hooper is stoic and serious, piercing the lens with his eyes as he appears to be looking right into your soul. While no baseball card of Hooper was made for the T205 set for some reason, this would have been the image used had they decided to include him. A fantastic image of an important figure in baseball history, this has been encapsulated by PSA as a Type. Simply the best photograph of Harry Hooper ever taken and in great condition overall!
