1912 Beautiful and visually stunning photograph of Duke Kahanamoku as he holds the American Flag at the Olympic Games in Sweden. He was a rare symbol of American inclusion at a time when Jim Crow Laws dominated the country, but people loved the Duke! He was a premier athlete who pioneered swimming and surfing, but he was also an advocate for inclusion at a time when this was not popular. The photo is stamped on the back by George Grantham Bain and in great shape with one small crease on the upper left corner. This is by far the greatest images of Kahanamoku we have ever handled and it is being offered here for the first time ever, fresh out of a prominent archive. This photo is full of symbolism and artistic expression and could easily be hanging in a museum or gallery!
