It could be argued that if not for this photograph of a white police officer, jaw clenched in anger, unleashing his German Shepard dogs on a 15 year old Civil Rights protestor in Birmingham, there would be no Voting Rights Act. This image appeared in newspapers across America and shocked the nation. Immediately afterwards was the protest in Selma and with increased media attention, the Civil Rights voting act was passed. It would be argued that this photograph changed the world like few others before or since and it's impact ripples to this very day. A large 8x10 example which has been blown up by the Associated Press and issued sometime around the late 1960's or early 1970's, this is a fiber backed example with significant age to it. This is one of only two vintage examples of this photograph we have ever seen in the hobby and it looks great but does have a small spot of damage down by the dog's foot. There is part of the original paper caption on the back from the Associated Press but the portion that would have originally had the date and text has been lost to history. An important piece of American history that is the finest example we have ever seen! We feel this is off the original negative and dates to the 1960's but given the blank back and lack of date stamps to prove age within their two years, it is likely PSA would not give this a Type 1. Please keep this in mind when bidding.
