1939 Large and poignant photograph of Lou Gehrig, the inspirational leader of the New York Yankees, possibly contemplating a speech he would be giving in a matter of moments. While not identified as such, this appears to be an image of Gehrig taken on the day he delivered his famous "Luckiest Man" speech as the uniform is exact, and even the hair on his head (length and haircut) appear to be exact to the moment he declared himself blessed despite dying of a disease. We believe the uniform and other aspects of the image could be photo-matched to his famous day, and feel confident this is not just a 1939 photo of Gehrig, but arguably taken from the famous day in baseball history. The photo is of exceptional quality and it presents well with a stamp on the back from the International News and a bit of scrapbook paper on the back from being mounted at one time.
