1931 Rare photo of Herbert Hoover throwing out the first pitch between the Washington Senators and Philadelphia Athletics to open the American League baseball season. The tradition of the President throwing out the first pitch extends back to the time of Taft and many U.S. Presidents took part in it, but this example is a true rarity and is the only example we have ever seen. Also present at the game was iconic pitcher Walter Johnson at far right who watched Hoover perform his ceremonial duties. The country was in a downward spiral, but all was right with America on this day! The photo is from the archives of Underwood and Underwood and is being offered here for the first time ever.
