The 1963 photographs of a monk named Thích Qu?ng Ð?c lighting himself on fire in protest is one of the most famous images ever taken. Photographer Malcolm Browne's photo of Buddhist monk in flames has been reproduced millions of times and is as poignant today as it was sixty years ago. This incredible new discovery is one of three images taken by a local Vietnamese photographer that captures the exact event from completely different angles! The offered photograph shows the monk from a similar view as Malcolm Browne's famous shot, but clearly the man who took this image was positioned to the left of Browne. The famous car with it's hood up is clearly visible as are other tell-tale signs that this is the exact moment captured by Browne. The photo is stamped on the back by the photographer Quang Minh and clearly done on vintage double weight paper. The condition is nice with note to some light paper loss on the far right side. We have been selling vintage photographs for over twenty years and had no idea other versions of this event existed until now and research included in the lot includes an interview that Malcolm Browne in the August 28, 2012 issue of TIME Magazine in which he was asked if he was the ony news photographer there and he replied, "As far as I could tell, yes. It turns out that there were some Vietnamese that took some pictures but they didn't go out-they're not on the wires or anything like that." The age of the prints and fingerprints that point to the same event, photographer stamp, and confirmation from Browne himelf that others were on site taking images all make this an incredible new discovery that is being offered here for the first time ever. NOTE, we have three images from this event that are being sold in seperate lots.
