1947 Important photograph of Jackie Robinson from the Brooklyn Dodgers as he was announced as the Rookie of the Year in the National League. Robinson's integration of baseball in the year this image was taken is not only the most important event in baseball history, but the spark that ignited the entire Civil Rights Movement in America. He is joined here in the photograph by his manager, Burt Shotton, and also the man who was giving him the award, J. Taylor Spink of the Sporting News. Images of Robinson from his ground breaking season are rare with this being the only example of him being announced as the Rookie of the Year we have ever seen. A potentially unique piece of history, this is stamped on the back by St. Louis photographer Edward Goldberger and the condition is great. The photo is encapsulated by PSA as a Type 1 and with the Rookie of the Year announcement event listed on the label. A historically important piece that we have never seen before!
