In the long and storied career of Babe Ruth there are two moments that have transcended the sport and live now in the myths and legends reserved for only heroes. One was the called shot which may or may not have actually happened, the other is something that is well documented! In the 1926 World Series, Babe Ruth made a promise to a young boy named Johnny Sylvester that he would hit a homer for him. Ruth kept that promise, blasted a homer in the third inning and Sylvester improved. The story has been told a million times, but this photo actually shows Ruth at the hospital and meeting the young Sylvester on his sick bed! A completely vintage image from Ruth's career and the only such specimen we have ever seen that actually dates to the 1920's! The photo has some editorial enhancements for publication but otherwise it looks pretty nice with some chipping and wear at the top. An important piece of Ruth history that is being offered here for the first time ever! Note, it is believed no Type 1 examples of this photo exist as it was a snapshot from the Sylvester family that was reproduced later after the story went public, so this photo (which will get a Type 3 from PSA) is as good as a photograph from this event will ever get and as such, should be the same as a Type 1 for collector purposes.
