In 1949 the greatest athlete in the world was probably Jackie Jensen. He was the best football player in America and also the highest ranked baseball prodigy in years, combined with Hollywood looks and a California attitude. His star shone bright but it burned out quick, largely because of a fear of flying in airplanes that led to his retirement from baseball at an early age. The 1949 image offered here captures Jensen as he arrived for his baseball career to great fanfare, along with Oakland Oaks manager, Chuck Dressen. A fantastic image in great shape and with crystal clarity.
