The 1910 photograph of Ty Cobb sliding into third base by Charles Conlon is the most important sports photograph ever taken and it ushered in a new era of sports action photography. While the example here is not that, it is one of the next best options for a collector on a budget. Issued around the 1950's and off a duplicate negative (because the original glass plate was cracked) this one is clean and clear. From the archives of the Sporting News, this is an actual original example from about 60 years ago and this WILL get a "Type 4" designation from PSA as c. 1950's-1960's dark-room specimen. A fine alternative to a half million dollar example! This does not fluoresce under a black light so it pre-dates the era when brighteners were added to paper, typically in the 1960's and dominant in the 1970's. The photo has a few corner creases in the gelatin surface but it looks great and has some of the best age to it of any of the restrikes we have ever handled.
