Large c. 1961 photograph of Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle as he showed off the often overlooked side of his game, his fielding. Despite losing much of his speed to an injury in 1951, Mantle was nonetheless one of the best outfielders of his era and this photograph illustrates his ability in a great posed action shot. At least 95% of the Mantle images out there show him batting as this is where most of his legendary status originates from, making any images of him with his glove in action quite rare. A nearly perfect vintage example that we have never seen before, offered here for the first time ever fresh out of a newspaper archive. Blank backed but developed on fiber backed paper consistent with 1960's technology and dark room processes.
