Stunning c. 1922 portrait photograph of Hall of Famer Walter Johnson in uniform and posed at the ballpark. A fantastic "Charles Conlon Like" image, this is the photograph that was used to make his 1924 Diaz cigarettes baseball card and is the only example we have ever seen. Issued by Fotograms and stamped on the back, this is a perfect 10/10! One of his greatest photographs ever taken and encapsulated by PSA as a Type 1! The paper caption on the back notes Johnson's hiring as Newark manager so the caption dates to 1928, but it is likely this was glued on after the original caption was removed as a sort of "update" as the Fotograms stamp is consistent to the early/mid 1920's.
