1909 Completely vintage photograph of Wilbur Wright as he took off in his airplane to attempt one of the first flights over water as he was taking off at Governors Island for a look at New York City. He attached a canoe to the bottom in case he needed to land on water as can clearly be seen in this image. One of the most important flights in Wright Brothers history, this is a new discovery from a New York archive that is being offered here for the first time ever! The photo would be essentially perfect with note to one tiny corner chip. Images of Wilbur Wright behind the wheel of his planes are extremely rare, especially from this iconic flight at Governors Island!
