1953 Large photograph of Jackie Robinson in uniform and posing for photographer Barney Stein. This is the photograph used to make his 1953 Topps baseball card and examples of this image are extremely desirable in the hobby with examples having sold for over $50,000. The problem with these photographs is they were issued over a long period of years and were only stamped on the back by the team if the photos were being sent to newspapers and magazines for copyright reasons. Those get "Type 1" certification from PSA. The blank backed versions, such as this, were clearly made in the 1950's but are generally classified by PSA as "Type 2 c. 1950's" because there is no way to pinpoint an exact year of manufacture. We feel this is within our five year window for a Vintage 1 and will classify this as such, but please keep in mind how PSA will most likely handle this when placing your bids as they will likely give it a Type 2 with a c. 1950's date. This example comes with two additional images from the same collection for provenance, Carl Erskine and Walter Alston, and all are in fantastic condition. These have never been sent to PSA and there is a chance they could get Type 1, but we want to be upfront about how we think they will evaluate them to potential bidders.
