Large 1916 action photograph of Chick Gandil who had come into the league as a star prospect for the White Sox (1910) but then was traded to the Washington Senators where he really became one of the top first basemen in the game. After the 1915 season he was dealt to the Indians where he played only one year before heading back to the White Sox where he became and iconic member of the 1919 Black Sox. This is a rare piece of photography from a local Cleveland newspaper that shows Gandil in his position at first base. There is a pencil date on the back that means this was re-used during the famed Black Sox world series. One of his better action photographs we have ever seen!
