Large 1930's double weight portrait photograph of Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig from the New York Yankees and flashing a smile in the dugout. Stamped on the back by photographer George Burke, this was known by Gehrig to be one of his personal favorite images ever taken of himself and this is one of the only vintage 1 (Type 1) examples we have ever seen in the hobby. A fantastic work of art from one of the top photographers of the era, this is bold and clean with no condition flaws to speak of. The photo was at one time signed (secretarially by Gehrig's wife) and restored (removed) on his sleeve to take the photograph back to the way it looked when it left Burke's studio and before it was sent for an autograph. Stamped on the back by Burke, this represents one of the few known Gehrig Burke photos we have ever handled and one of his finest photographs that exists in the entire hobby. This will get a Type 1 from PSA for sure and will only continue to skyrocket in value as photographs become a more recognized investment potential in the hobby! Offered publicly here for the first time ever!
