Walter "Dutch" Ruether was a good pitcher who had the misfortune of playing for some really bad teams, but sandwiched in there also played for two of the better known and successful clubs of the era. He was the ace of the 1919 Reds that beat the Black Sox and then at the end of his career he would be on the 1927 Yankees as well. Taken in uniform here with the Reds, this is dated by Charles Conlon as being from 1917 which was early in his career. Taken by photographer Charles Conlon and stamped on the back with his handwritten notes as well, the photo displays well with some wear to the upper right corner area.
