1910 Vintage portrait photograph of Doc Crandall of the New York Giants and stamped on the back by the Paul Thompson photo service of New York. An important work of photography as this is the image used to make his famous T205 baseball card, one of the most popular sets of all time. It is believed that the Thompson agency was commissioned by the American Tobacco company to take these images specifically for the card set, but the result changed sports photography forever. Even the great Charles Conlon would copy the Thompson model in his photography after this series was done! While this image was trimmed by an artist at a newspaper or periodical archive, what remains is one of the most highly sought after baseball card images in the hobby! This is one of about ten of these we are listing in this auction, all from the same source and offered here individually for the first time ever! Photo is pretty nice with a touch of wear on the upper left corner.
