Unique April 16, 1914 opening day photograph from Koppel Field in Kansas City between the Federal League Kansas City Packers and the Chicago Whales. A highly detailed silver gelatin original in nice shape, this was discovered about ten years and was the subject of a lengthy SABR article about the image and the importance of being taken on opening day (researched extensively by the scoreboard) from the first year of the Federal League. The Whales would win 3-2 in front of about 7,900 fans as the upstart league looked to get out to a big start to compete. As a result of the article and research, this photograph has been re-used many times by various websites and organizations, including major league baseball, but this is the one and only example! The quality of the photograph is perfect and the image is a slice of baseball history!
