Forbes field was the site of some of the biggest moments in baseball from 1909 until the early 1960's, but at one point in time, the massive shrine, was just a figment of the imagination of Barney Dreyfuss. The opening of the field was anticipated for over a year with the progress of the massive steel structure chronicled daily in the Pittsburgh newspapers. While much fanfare was made when it opened, very few images of the structure during the construction process exist with this being the first we have ever handled. The offered image appears to show owner Barney Drefuss walking around the construction site, viewing the progress, as the steel framework starts to dominate the landscape. A completely unique new discovery from a scrapbook, this is an important piece of Pirates history that presents beautifully.
