After being diagnosed with a terminal illness at the beginning of the 1939 season, Gehrig was not left out of the hearts of New Yorkers. He continued to hang around the ballpark as much as he could, and was even given a desk job as a parole commissioner. The offered image shows Lou being sworn in to his new post with his wife by his side. Largely ceremonial, this is a fantastic image in great shape issued by Acme and grades very well.
