One of the most famous images ever taken on a sports field and one of the few ever to win the Pulitzer Prize, this photograph of Babe Ruth was taken by photographer Nat Fein and captures Ruth as he makes his final appearance at Yankee Stadium in uniform. Titled "The Babe Bows Out", this is one of the most coveted photographs among collectors with Type 1 examples reaching six figures at auction. While the particular example is crystal clear and appears to be off the original negative, it was released with permission through Acme and the United Press, this is a high quality Type 3, but dated 1948 making it among the best vintage examples of this photograph to hit the hobby in some time. Slabbed by PSA at great expense to the consigner, this looks at first glance to be a $100,000 original from Fein but is instead the greatest example of this image that will not break the bank. An undervalued photo in todays climate, this presents well with some light handling wear and a few pinholes from news-room artistic use.
