1961 Was an iconic season in baseball with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris competing in the greatest home run chase in history. As the season started to wind down, the pressure mounted and every at-bat was scrutinized by the media, and the pressure the players put on themselves was just too much to handle. With this constant stain, Mantle and Maris sometimes cracked and this photo captures one of those moments as Mickey Mantle loudly makes his opinion known to umpire Joe Paparella who had just called Mickey out on strikes. A fantastic image from the Associated Press and in great shape with a full paper caption as well. A rare look at the other side of the normally joyous Mantle during his epic season.
