Fred Lake was a decent baseball player between 1891-1907 but never a star. His last major league game was in 1898, until the hard hit Boston Braves came calling twelve years later in 1910! At that time a 44 year old Lake suited up again for three games and two at-bats, walking once and then fading into the history books again. This photo captures the Boston Red Sox manager from the year before in 1909 looking like he was ready for action at any time! Stamped on the back by photographer Paul Thompson and in nice shape overall with note to a small chip on the upper right corner, this is an ultra rarity from one of the most important photographers of the era.
