1912 Original George Grantham Bain photograph of members of the United States Olympic team receiving a heroes welcome as they returned back home after the games in Sweden. Of central focus in this photograph is the star of the games, Jim Thorpe all dressed in his finest suit and shaking hands with dignitaries at the very front of the line. A dramatic and symbolic photograph as Thorpe is pictured surrounded by American Flags despite the country he represented turning their back on him and eventually stripping his medals from him. A deep and clear contact print from Bain, this is from the Culver Archives and the reverse carries multiple stamps from both archives. Despite a few creases on the corners, this is fantastic image and it represents the only specimen of this exact photograph we have ever seen and it might be the only one to have survived. An important piece of history related to the crowning achievement of the greatest athlete of the era!
