Large 1908 silver gelatin action photograph of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb sliding home on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning of the third game of the World Series against the Chicago Cubs. Taken from about 30 feet away from the play but at ground level, this was done at West Side Park in Chicago. The catcher Johnny Kling is just a hint too late with the ball and he looks on helplessly as Cobb willed himself across the plate. A silver gelatin original from the archives of a working newspaper, this was taken a year before the famous sliding photo by Charles Conlon and for our money, this is every bit as good! A thin heavily silvered original, this is one of the finest pieces of baseball photography we have ever handled! NOTE: This photograph was submitted to PSA for a second set of eyes. It has been authenticated as a PSA Type 1 and will be encapsulated.
