1936 Was a pivotal year for the New York Yankees. They had lost Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig was holding down the fort, but they needed more pop in the lineup. Along came rookie Joe DiMaggio and the puzzle was complete. The team would win four consecutive championships and DiMaggio would take the helm after Gehrig was forced out due to illness. Here we see the veteran Gehrig seated in the center row while the rookie stands third from the left at the top. A silver gelatin image in nice shape overall, this is one of the few 1936 team photographs that is without a doubt original to the year we have ever seen!
