Lot Description  

Large 1944 photograph of the American flag as it once again flies over the Philippines on Leyte Island. It was captured by the Japanese in 1941 and here in 1944 it was finally back in the hands of the American/Philippine forces. An official Coast guard photo in great shape, this is one of only two original examples we have ever seen and it presents beautifully with a small paper caption glued to the front for publication. A work of WWII art!
