While some baseball stars gave up a year or two for WWII service, Hank Greenberg lost more than anyone as he enlisted before the 1941 season missing essentially FIVE prime years! He was a celebrity for being one of the greatest baseball hitters of all time, but in the years surrounding WWII when patriotism was of the utmost importance, Greenberg was a God! Here he takes his first at bat since 1940 and was greeted warmly by the fans who all knew they were watching something special. A field level masterpiece of baseball photography, this is a nice image with some editorial marks from publication. Issued by the Philadelphia Enquirer, this is likely a unique new discovery that is being offered here for the first time ever.
