One of the more enduring baseball images of the 1930's is that of Babe Ruth giving a sick Lou Gehrig an embrace on "Lou Gehrig Day" at the ballpark. Both were out of the game they had dominated a short time earlier and both would be dead in ten years, but when this photo was taken all eyes were on Gehrig. He had been the ultimate symbol of strength and durability in his profession, only to be felled by a terrible microscopic disease. The offered photograph is off the original negative which is a rarity and despite being a restrike from the late 1950's, it is still within the range for a Vintage 3 and is an important relic from one of the most touching days in baseball history!
