Satchel Paige was one of the top pitchers of all time and while he was celebrated throughout his career, it was not until he made it to the major leagues in 1948 that photographers really took notice. During the twenty years he toiled in the Negro Leagues, he was almost never photographed and images of him in action are extremely rare. The offered photograph captures Paige in uniform with the Kansas City Monarchs as he is about to let one fly! A fantastic horizontal action photograph, this is a unique discovery from a local Detroit News photographer (Brooks) and stamped on the back. Without a doubt this is one of the finest action photographs of Paige that exists and the condition is nearly as nice as the perfect quality!
