Taken during the waning moments of the 1938 season, Lou Gehrig was captured here by an unknown photographer from Acme as the pillar of strength from the New York Yankees. What Gehrig and the World did not know is that the horrible disease that would take his life a few years later was already ravaging his body. This profile photo is one of the best we have ever seen of Gehrig from any year in any form, made special by the events of his next full season around the corner. Condition not bad with some light creasing mostly reserve to the left side of the image and the photo is stamped on the back as well as carrying caption from Acme ands several others from news-room use. For the collector or investor who wants the best, the only other example of this photo we have handled sold for $1580 in our 2014 Holiday Auction!
